Scholarship Applications for the 2025-2026 Dance Year

Sole City Dance Scholarship & Work-Study Program

At Sole City Dance, we are committed to making dance accessible to all members of our community. To support this mission, we offer need-based scholarships and work-study opportunities for students who may not otherwise be able to afford dance education.

Please note that funding is limited and typically awarded in the fall. Scholarships apply only to academic year programs and are not guaranteed for summer classes.

How to Apply

Families must complete a scholarship application and provide supporting financial documentation. Applications are due two weeks before the start of classes each academic year. Late applications may be considered if funding and work-study positions remain available.

Eligibility and Required Documentation

Sole City Dance uses government income guidelines to determine financial eligibility. Scholarships and work-study positions are awarded solely based on demonstrated need. To be considered, applicants must submit one of the following:

  • The first page of the most recent tax return

  • Pay stubs from the past 30 days

  • A letter showing eligibility for financial assistance (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid, WIC)

  • A written explanation of financial circumstances if formal documentation is not available

All submitted materials are kept strictly confidential and reviewed only by the Executive Director and the Board Chair/President of Arts Rochester (dba Sole City Dance).

Work-Study Opportunities

Work-study positions may be completed by parents/guardians or older teen students and typically include cleaning or administrative support. Priority is given based on financial need and the applicant’s ability to complete the job reliably.

Program Requirements

Because of the significant financial support offered through this program, scholarship recipients are expected to dance exclusively with Sole City Dance during the academic year. Failure to do so may result in a requirement to repay the awarded aid.

To maintain scholarship eligibility, students keep good attendance (above 75%) of their scheduled classes. Failure to meet this attendance requirement may result in reduction or revocation of the award.

At the conclusion of the dance year, all scholarship and work-study recipients are required to submit a one-page typed or neatly handwritten essay describing what the assistance has meant to them. Essays must be submitted within 30 days after the Dance Concert. Failure to complete this step will make the student ineligible for assistance the following year.

Application Access

Applications are available on the Financial Assistance page of our website. If you are unable to complete the form online, please contact Executive Director Alex via email at alex@solecitydance.org or call the studio at 603-750-7777 to request a paper application.

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, don’t hesitate to reach out.
